The region has been a documented target for years — state-sponsored attacks, espionage campaigns against defence and industrial sectors, repeated national advisories on ransomware and credential theft. Vision 2030 has made Saudi industrial sovereignty strategically significant, and operational environments remain the least-defended entry point.
Yet the gap between IT and OT security maturity remains wide. Corporate networks are monitored, hardened, and well-defended. Plant floors — industrial controllers, operator interfaces, engineering workstations, data historians — are often invisible to the same security stack. Undocumented. Unprotected. Unchanged for years.
Compliance frameworks like OTCC-1:2022 are raising the bar. But compliance and security are not the same thing. Meeting a control on paper and detecting an adversary moving through your operational network are two very different outcomes.
Closing the gap requires visibility first — an accurate picture of every connected asset, every industrial protocol in use, every remote-access path that reaches critical systems. From that foundation, detection and response become possible.
The approach does not require replacing legacy infrastructure. It starts with a defined scope, produces real data, and scales from there. Done right, it satisfies regulatory requirements and delivers genuine operational resilience — not as separate workstreams, but as the same outcome.
The threat is documented. The regulatory expectation is clear. The technology to act is available today.
